I took so many thousands of pictures wandering New York City as a teen. I remember being excited by playing with black and white, the way it changed the way my lens took in the world. Taking macro shots of cigarettes on the ground like it was a novel idea. Snapping strangers caught in a unique mannerism or an interesting expression, like it wasn’t invasive. Was I proud of those pictures at the time, whereas now they seem so boring? I like this one, though.
